February 24th, 2002 Thanks to Alyssa for this submission I went with my cousin and best friend. As soon as we arrived at 8am and finished our paper work, a techie named Tamra went over some basic rules with us while the "fashion guy" (for lack of a better term) inspected our wardrobe to make sure it was acceptable. The extras got a speech from Tamra that I'd never heard before this time. She said "I know this isn't very relative but I have to say this...Katie is very particular with her fans, she doesn't like to be bothered, she doesn't like people comming up to her, asking for an autograph or picture, so please keep to yourself when you are around her." After that we sat in Duke's cafeteria (being an extra is a lot of waiting) until 2. During this period (probably around noon) I went outside to take a walk around campus because I was getting bored. I noticed that Katie and Chad Michael Murray (Charlie) were filming a scene outside and there were tons and tons of Duke students surrounding the set watching. I asked one of the "techies" (my term for the people with headsets that give directions to the extras) if I could go watch and he said of course. So I went and watched, I got closer than anyone LoL I managed to push my way to the front. It was a scene filmed from the waist up so Katie was wearing a green shirt and a camel suede coat over it...paired with some blue and white plaid pajama pants and some camel colored suede slippers (I have the same ones by the way!) (: However Chad was wearing full costume. So when this episode is shown, know that Katie is really wearing pj pants (: hah. Anyways. My cousin managed to get a good view of Katie as well while this scene was filmed and ended up sketching a VERY good picture of Katie. (I'll get back to that later) In between takes Katie would have the "fashion guy" on the set put a coat on for her (which I thought was rather odd)...also, the coat was a long black down (marshmallow) coat, which I thought was even weirder because it was at least 70 that day. After that shot was finished some Duke student (who didn't know any better) came out of no where comes up to her and shakes her hand and gave her a flyer for his keg party...I thought that was the funniest thing LoL. And one kid asked for her autograph which she shyly gave. When she left that area to go back to her trailer a few techies and a man dressed in all black with dark sunglasses (I think he is her body guard, however he didn't look huge by any means) escorted her (she didn't walk anywhere without these guys). When the time finally came to do our scene Katie kept to herself, avoided eye contact with any of the extras, kept her head down and barely ever smiled (I probably only saw her smile maybe 3 times the entire day). She kept repeating how tired she was and how she never gets enough sleep. She was socially different from Chad. Chad talked to the extras, smiled constantly, talked to the techies a lot...Katie kept to herself and in between takes read the NY Post which is understandable considering she's very used to stardom and has had problems with that stalker she had. (Readers note: When many of the extras were questioning the techies about Katie's behavior, they were told that it was because of Katie's stalker that she doesn't like contact with many fans) and it was apparent that she was having a bad day. During this scene she wore a yellow collared shirt, jeans, and a long, long, dark grey cardigan sweater. She seemed tall, Chad appeared only an inch or two taller than her. I expected her to look supermodel, bony, thin (considering she looks like she had lost a lot of weight and looks model thin on magazines) but she appeared very skinny but not too skinny like I had thought. Her hair is still that lighter auburn color but she had roots so it appears she's growing her natural color back out (: woohoo! Looks wise, she looks exactly like she does on Dawsons Creek (probably b/c she is supposed to for filming hah) At one point in time Katie left for about 10 minutes and everyone seemed to be waiting for her...I saw her walking back though with those same men, chatting on her cell phone. Not too much longer after we were finished with filming. My cousin went up to the "fashion guy" to ask if there was anyway he could give her the picture he had sketched of her earlier. The fashion guy said of course and took my cousin to Katie's bodyguard who wasn't so nice about it. My cousin was like "so should I give this to her or..." and the bodyguard immediately snapped, "I'll give it to her". My cousin and I watched from a distance as Katie's bodyguard, make up artist, hair dresser and Katie were sitting together talking. After about 10 minutes the bodyguard finally handed the picture to Katie. Now I'll admit I couldn't hear a word she said but I saw Katie look at it...comment to the make up artist...and then they all started cracking up. I was really hoping they weren't making fun of it :( After the majority of the crew and extras left the area in which we were filming I waited for a picture with Chad Michael Murray (A few girls were waiting to get pictures with him) He was extremely extremely nice and happy. I told him that I had worked with all of the other cast members before and he was by far the nicest, he replied (making eye contact) "Thank you, thank you, I really appreciate that". I was so flattered by his sincerity and kindness. I overheard him telling an extra to "make sure to watch the lone ranger!" and "yeah I'm the one thats been naked on the show 4 times now" LoL he was joking a lot. This was his last episode however and he said he was flying back to LA soon. I think he has a new project (Maybe he's on a new show called the lone ranger LoL ?) I'm not sure. Nevertheless, that was my day (in a nutshell) one the set...I'm debating whether or not I believe if Kati ehas succumb to the ways of hollywood, I'm trying hard not to believe it. I really hope that she was acting that way because she was concerned, not stuck up.
