Thanks to Kate for this :)From BB January 2001 issue:
Katie's Awesome Attitude
Okay Boppers, if you have ever let the "I'm not good enough" attitude stop you
from doing something like trying out for the cheerleading team or auditioning
for the lead role in the school play, it's time to listen up and learn from
this important lesson. It would have been way easy for Katie Holmes to ditch
her dreams of making it big in Hollywood. After all, she remembers how hard
it was to feel confident in school. "Only a few girls get to be prom queens
and get all the guys," the 21-year-old says. I wasn't like that at all. I
was very tall, gawky, and skinny by eighth grade."
Nevertheless, that did not stop the Toledo, Ohio native from entering a
talent and modeling show in New York, and then auditioning and ultimately
landing the role for Dawson's Creek. But even a stunning success like Katie
doesn't always get every part she auditions for. Turns out, the doe-eyed
darling was turned down for roles on the TV shows Party of Five and As the
World Turns. And even though she didn't score a spot in the movies Scream or
The Beach, Katie still had an awesome I-can-do-anything attitude. "I've
learned so many new things" she dishes about her action experiences. "Like
this is what I want to be doing."
Katie discovered that going though the I-fee-less-than lovely stage growing up
wasn't the end of the world. And even being turned down for movie roles didn't
dash the actress' dreams! Everybody has to decide what makes them feel like a
million bucks. For Katie, her personal pleasure comes from hard work
and a centered outlook on life
"For me, success is about getting an education and being happy," Katie declares.
Now that's a truly beautiful girl.
