There were a couple of Katie mentions in the National Star. As the date nears for the opening of Phone Booth at the Toronto Film Festival (Sept. 10th), I wonder if Katie will make an appearance? No, really, you've got a shot Shinan Govani Friday, September 06, 2002 KATIE HOLMES Starring in the movie Phone Booth, which plays at Roy Thomson Hall on Sept. 10 at 6:30. She's not that innocent. Sassy, wise beyond her years, a reformed tomboy who still, fortunately, is just awkward enough -- that sums up Joey, the character that Katie has played for more than half a decade on TV's Dawson's Creek. An ongoing fixation of boys, adolescent and not, Katie has even drawn the attention of a band in Japan, who penned a song about her a few years back titled Katie. In real life, the actress is just as dewy but more sophisticated. If you're able to see the woman behind the girl and can see yourself debating art and literature with her over coffee and biscotti, then she might be the gal for you. Do: Tell her you like big families (Katie comes from a family of five kids). And that you respect her for turning down Sarah Michelle Geller's title role in TV's Buffy the Vampire Slayer because she wanted to finish high school. Don't: Suggest she go blonde. Ask her if she's going to finally end up with Pacey on the show. Previous entanglements: Dawson's Creek co-star Joshua Jackson, Chris Klein. -------------------------- There is also a little Katie mention in another article: Where's Waldo? Hollywood style Celeb spotting is never easy. But you stand a good chance if you haunt their haunts during the festival -- everywhere from ice cream parlours and oyster bars to high-end shops and spas Nathalie Atkinson
WHERE THE BUYS ARE Playing with the platinum card is the undisputed, unofficial and universal hobby of jet-set celebrities from Hollywood to Bollywood. The stars love to shop - and the quirkier and more obscure the objet the better. It would be easier to tell you what superstars aren't regulars at Yorkville's ICE boutique (163 Cumberland Ave.) than vice versa -- even Britney Spears has dropped by. ICE carries all manner of kit and kitsch for such stars as Miranda Richardson, earthy girl-next-door Katie Holmes and Hilary Swank. There's Philosophy beauty products, not to mention Diptyque, Votivo and Tocca candles and so-cutesy-it-hurts Isabelle Fiore bags. And it's just steps from fest central, The Four Seasons.
