Thanks to Sebastien tor this :) From December issue of Empire Wonder Woman As Jennifer Love Hewitt or Sarah Michelle Gellar will tell you, the stability of a TV gig is pretty useful if you want to try your hand at the movies. With the success of Dawson's Creek, Katie Holmes has got the first part under control. And though the show has elevated teen angst to heights scaled previously only by dour Scandinavian existentialists - "It does acknowledge the fact that teenagers today are very worldly, more so maybe then they were before," Holmes defends. "It doesn't condescend" - her Midwestern innocence has been channelled successfully into Ang Lee's The Ice Storm [1997], Doug Liman's Go! [1999], and the endlessly awaited Kevin Williamson flick, Teaching Mrs. Tingle [currently headed direct to video, in a store near you sometime next year]. This month, in Wonder Boys, the 21 year-old's acting ability is tested further by sharing scenes with one Michael Douglas - "I have a crush on his character that kinda evolves," she explains - although her role as college student Hannah Green, is fast approaching reality, as she prepares to take up a deferred place at New York's Columbia University next year. Fans of "The Creek," though, need not fear. "I'll be a part of Dawson's Creek for the duration," she confirms, adding that she will continue to keep her house in Wilmington, North Carolina, the show's sleepy location. Beyond graduation, however, the charming and unaffected Holmes is not sure altogether where her future lies: "The thought of being in movies and television is something that just seemed very foreign to me," she says. "The likelihood of it actually occurring seemed so far-fetched. It's kind of surreal. I'm just trying to settle in and enjoy the ride and not take it too seriously. And to continue to have fun with it..." |
